Enlisted 6/10/1861 at Indian Town, PA as a Corpoal. Mustered into Company B, 40th Infantry Pennsylvania. Wounded 8/30/1862 2nd Bull Run, VA. Discharged for disability on 10/13/1862. Awarded the Medal of Honor for action on 6/30/1862 at Charles City Cross Roads where he captured the flag of GA regiment.

Charles is buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Washington, DC
Catherine is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Washington, DC
